About Intersession
Intersessions are condensed class schedules offered in the weeks between semesters. Intersession classes provide the same curriculum, grades, units, and degree progress as classes in the fall or spring semester, only in a much shorter timeframe. Each day of an Intersession class is equivalent to at least one week of a class offered in the fall or spring semesters.
Most Intersession classes are offered for open enrollment and there is no priority registration. Anyone who meets prerequisites may enroll as soon as registration opens. Intersessions are also open to non-Fresno State participants.

Registration
Courses offered in Intersession provide the same course credit and fulfill the same programmatic requirements as their counterparts in the fall and spring semesters. Advisors can assist students in determining if Intersession is a useful avenue for completing their degree requirements.
The registration process is the same as the fall and spring semesters. Current students may log into MyFresnoState and use the "Search for Classes" or "Class Enrollment" tools to find available classes in the "Winter 2026" term.
Intersession grades will be averaged into students' Fresno State GPA. Students who do not attend their enrolled classes will receive failing grades, which will reflect on their GPA as well. Winter Intersession grades will be available at MyFresnoState after January 21.
Students may drop Intersession classes online until the fourth calendar day of class. Students who have a serious and compelling reason and who wish to drop on the fifth calendar day or later may petition to drop with a grade of “W.”

Wait lists are available for Winter Intersession. Students may add themselves to the wait list if a class is full, and will be auto-enrolled in the class if a space becomes available. The last day to join a waitlist for 2026 Winter Intersession is December 21, 2025.
Important Note: Waitlisted students should check their campus email daily for notification of registration and be prepared to make payment before the next deadline, especially if enrollment occurs during the "Immediate Pay" registration period when students with unpaid balances are dropped every 24 hours.
Intersession courses have the same grading options--for example: letter-grading, credit/no credit, or student choice--as their equivalents in the fall and spring semesters. However, the period in which students may request changes to the grading option will be considerably shorter. Changes in grading option must be made no later than Friday of the first week of class.
The grading option may be changed during self-enrollment in MyFresnoState. The selected grading option will be used on the student's Fresno State transcript. The University Catalog provides detailed explanations of the various grading options, but please note that the deadlines referenced in the Catalog (e.g. 20th day of instruction) apply to fall and spring classes, NOT Intersession. Review the information in the University Catalog.
Intersession courses may be audited, similar to Fall and Spring classes. An schedule change form requesting audit grading must be submitted to the Continuing and Global Education Dean's Office no later than the Friday of the first week of instruction.
The University Catalog provides detailed explanations of the various grading options, but please note that the deadlines referenced in the Catalog (e.g., 20th day of instruction) apply to fall and spring classes, NOT Intersession. Review the information in the University Catalog.
Intersession is open to community members and non-Fresno State students. Matriculated and disqualified students, as well as the public, may take Intersession classes. The same registration process, fees, and deadlines apply to non-Fresno State students.

Course prerequisites may impact non-Fresno State students' ability to self-enroll if fulfillment of those prerequisites is not on record at Fresno State. For example, a non-Fresno State student attempting to enroll in Calculus 2 will be denied enrollment if they completed Calculus 1 at another institution, unless an official transcript was already sent to Fresno State as part of a prior degree completion or admission attempt. Course prerequisties may be overridden by permission numbers provided by instructors. Please contact the class instructor with permission number requests.
Registration in Intersession does not ensure admission to the university, nor should it be interpreted as acceptance to any degree or credential program. Students who are interested in formal admission to the university should contact the Office of Admissions and Recruitment for more information.

Campus Services
The Fresno State campus will be closed from December 26 - January 1. The campus will reopen on January 2, though service hours will be reduced at many offices. View the hours for specific campus services in the section that follows. Please note that hours are subject to change, and refer to the offices' websites for up-to-date information.
The Amendola Family Student Cupboard will be closed from December 24 - January 4. It will reopen on January 5, 2026.
Regular hours (January 5 and later):
- Mondays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Division of Continuing and Global Education (CGE) will be closed from December 24 - January 1. On days when CGE is closed, please contact us with any Intersession concerns at cgeinfo@mail.fresnostate.edu. Please include your Fresno State ID number in the email and a detailed description or screenshot of any enrollment or technical problem or concern.
CGE will reopen on January 2 with regular office hours. Regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
All University Dining Services options will be closed from December 24 - January 4, 2026. Select options will reopen on January 5.
The Technology Services Help Desk will be available by phone to assist with Intersession technology issues from 8am - 5pm on the following days:
- Friday, December 26
- Monday, December 29
- Tuesday, December 30
- Wednesday, December 31

Regular service hours will resume on January 2.
The Kennel Bookstore will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 22 and 23, and will be closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 4, with the exception of opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 29, so students can purchase intersession textbooks and materials. After the holiday closure, the bookstore will reopen at 10 a.m. Jan. 5.
The Fresno State Library will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 19, closed on December 20 and 21, and then open again from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 22 and 23. The Library will be closed from December 24 through January 1, but will provide virtual services during the last week of December.
From January 2 to January 14, the library will be open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and closed on weekends.
The Resnick Student Union (RSU) is closed from December 24 to January 1, January 3 to 4, and January 17 to 19.
The RSU is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on January 2. It is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
on January 5 to 9.
Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) will be closed from Wednesday, December 24th, through Thursday, January 1st, and will resume regular hours of operation on January 2nd. SSD's hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 8am - 5pm.
The Student Health and Counseling Center will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 1, reopening at 8 a.m. Jan. 2. Medical advice or counseling is available by calling the main line of the Student Health and Counseling Center at 559.278.2734. Students experiencing a medical emergency should call 911. Students experiencing a mental health crisis should call 911, call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988, or go to Exodus Crisis Stabilization Center (4411 E. Kings Canyon Rd.), in Fresno.
The University Student Union (USU) will be closed from December 24 to January 1 and from January 3 to January 4, as well as from January 17 to January 19. The USU will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on January 2
Fees and Payments
Fees are $305 per unit and must be paid by the due dates above to hold class seats. Some courses have additional course/materials fees, as defined in the University Catalog, and those must also be paid by the due dates above.

Payments may be submitted online through MyFresnoState or in person and should be specifically designated as "Continuing and Global Education Payments." Refer to the Continuing and Global Education registration guide for detailed information on accepted payments.
Financial aid is NOT available for Winter Intersession.
Refunds
Students who drop classes before the first day of instruction will receive full (100%) refunds of fees paid. Students who drop by the fourth calendar day of instruction will receive a partial (65%) refund. See "Partial Refund Calculation" below to determine available refunds.
Refunded money will remain on the student's Fresno State account for future expenses unless a refund is requested using the Schedule Change/Refund Form. Refunds will be dispersed according to the student's eRefund preference. Non-Fresno State students should set this up before requesting a refund. For instructions, view the "How to Receive a Refund" section of the Accounting Services website.
If a class is cancelled by the university, a refund will be automatically dispersed; students will not need to submit a form to request the refund.

Faculty Information
Course Offerings
Courses listed in the University Catalog may be offered during Intersession. General education and high-demand courses are good candidates for Intersession. Multiple sections of the same course or courses that require large amounts of writing or numerous lab hours are not recommended for Intersession. At the direction of the faculty serving on the Writing Competency Subcommittee, UDWR courses must meet for a 6-week minimum. To comply, CGE will not accept W courses proposed for Intersessions.
Many Intersession classes in the Winter term are offered online due to faculty and student travel plans. In-person courses may be offered as well, but campus services will be operating on reduced schedules during Winter Break, and in-person classes will be scheduled in as few buildings as possible.
Class Format and Contact Hours
Winter Intersession 2026 allows for 13 days of instruction, plus weekends if needed. Courses may be offered face-to-face, online or as a hybrid. The specific minimum numbers of contact hours required for a class are as follows. Each unit of credit equates to 15 contact hours; or 3 hours per day of instruction in a face-to-face for synchronous class.
Instructor Salary
Instructors will be paid via the CSU Salary Schedule; Class Code 2322. Salary is based on faculty rank and class enrollment. Contact the Intersession Coordinator with any questions about pay calculations.
