The Certificate Award in Introduction to Meeting and Event Planning is intended for students and professionals who desire to enter this fast-growing and exciting industry. This intensive and practical program is designed for students and professionals who seek to learn more about meeting and event planning from a 20-year veteran and working professional. This program offers the following topics: Planning as a Profession, The Planning Process, and Common Event Elements.
A certificate of completion will be granted to those individuals who attend and complete all sessions. The program will provide digital handouts that can be printed out or used digitally during class. These handouts are included with your registration fees.
For those interested in applying for the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) professional designation, this course is offered for Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Nationally recognized standards govern attendance requirements to earn CEU credit. Week 1 – Planning as a Profession
This will focus on the backstory of the industry, roles and responsibilities, job prospects, and much more. It will also include resources for building a professional network, professional designations, and ethical issues in the industry.

Week 2 – The Planning Process and Common Event Elements
This will focus on how to map out the process of planning and the attendee experience. It will also include an overview of many event elements and their impact on the planning process.

- Risk Mitigation and World Events (Civil Unrest, Weather, Pandemics)

Instructor: David Anderson, CMP, is a principal owner of the Eventive Group, founded in 2000 to serve corporate, non-profit and association meetings and events. David has been a member of Meetings Professionals International since 2000 and served on the Southern California Chapter board of directors for ten years. David has presented to industry and non-industry groups on the topics of introduction to meeting/event planning, volunteerism, time management, site selection, meeting space design, and special event design.
