CRLP: Leading for Equity to Transform Systems

Through readings, discussions, field practice, and other media, you will take on the identity of “transformational coaches for equity.” This professional learning will develop your understanding of critical dispositions needed to engage as a transformational coach for equity, as well as reflect on how you show up in challenging conversations that may hinder success when coaching and leading others.  You will engage in strategies and processes for noticing bias in yourself and others and inequity in the system around you to cultivate culturally sustaining school environments. This work will be grounded in the dispositions of emotional intelligence and growth mindedness for adult learners using a variety of coaching stance approaches used to frame conversations which will assist in over-coming common barriers hindering equity in schools. The focus of the course is on moving from theory to the application of techniques - called praxis - that can be used in the professional setting every day. It is usually expected that students will spend approximately 6-8 hours of study time per week since this is a fully online 3-unit course. This course is not open to matriculated Fresno State students.
