International Opportunities and Resources

JET Program

The JET Program is a competitive employment opportunity that allows young professionals to live and work in cities, towns, and villages throughout Japan. Participating in JET is an opportunity to work and represent the United States as a cultural ambassador to Japan. Most participants serve as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) and work in public and private schools throughout Japan; some work as Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) as interpreters/translators. The JET Program seeks participants who are adaptable, outgoing, and who have a deep interest in Japan. Only the best candidates are chosen to represent America. The JET Program typically receives 4,000-5,000 applications each year from U.S. applicants. Of these, 1,000-1,100 will be selected for participation in the JET Program.

Graduate School Abroad

Consider pursuing a graduate degree abroad. With the growing appeal of working towards a graduate degree and gaining international experience, students have many options to find graduate schools abroad. Recent studies by the Institute of International Education show that “77% of international institutions are promoting opportunities and scholarships for U.S. students'', which may be available for qualified students. If you are excited to combine a global perspective, and exposure to a foreign language and or culture, with a graduate degree, browse international graduate programs by country on the program directory.

Fulbright Program

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think. Through engagement in the community, the individual will interact with their hosts on a one-to-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom, thereby promoting mutual understanding.
