F-1 Transfer Procedures

Transfer in

If you are in lawful F-1 status and are completing or leaving your current program and plan to continue your studies at CSU, Fresno, you must complete the F-1 transfer process.

The transfer procedure is initiated by you and the school you are currently attending and is completed by CSU, Fresno through SEVIS.  It is your responsibility to notify your current institution of your intention to transfer or go on for a higher degree at CSU, Fresno, prior to the end of the last semester of attendance, if possible.

Notification should be given to your former institution no later than the 60 day grace period following your attendance or OPT. After 60 days, you are out of status and are not eligible for a transfer.  Students transferring to CSU, Fresno will be sent a Transfer Verification Form with their Notice of Admission. It must be completed by the international student advisor at your current institution and returned to the CSU, Fresno International Office. Your SEVIS record will then be released to CSU, Fresno, who in turn, will issue your new I-20.

The transfer is formally in effect when CSU, Fresno notifies SEVIS, within 30 days of the beginning of the semester, that you have enrolled in classes.

Transfer out

If you have intent to transfer to another school upon the completion of your degree or during your pursuit of a degree at Fresno State, simply reach out to your assigned international student advisor with 1) an admission letter from your new school; 2) completed Transfer Out Form. You will be assisted accordingly.
